Background
and Research Interests:
I was hired at Wartburg in 2000 to be a "teaching
librarian." This was a natural fit after spending many years as a teacher librarian/media
specialist at Hampton-Dumont (IA) High School. It has always been my interest
and priority to assist students and the adults who mentor them in becoming information
literate lifelong learners. I particularly enjoy helping students with their
transition from high school to college academic skills and watching them develop
and improve their personal information-seeking and meaning-making skills as they
discover what our library has to offer.
At Vogel Library I focus not only on classroom instruction but on the delivery
of personal and individualized instruction through encounters at
the reference desk and via information consultations. How classroom
lessons can be supported through reference service has been the
topic of several of my recent presentations and publications. I
also have an interest in young adult literature and in reading
guidance for teens. In addition, I served as the Interim Library
Director in 2007-2008. |
